Trip Overview

This blog will follow two totally inexperienced bikepackers, Geoff and Cam, and their journey from Banff to Mexico via the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route. The route follows the Continental Divide, exposing riders to high altitude, diverse wildlife, and solitude. To learn more about the route, check this out. Randy will be the official bookie so get in touch with him if you'd like to place a wager on how far we will actually make it.

In the mean time, you can track our progress here thanks to our SPOT device.

This will be a site where we will try our best to post some pictures and stories along the way. Happy reading!

Day 16 - Wise River to Elkhorn Hotsprings

Today we learnt a lot about ourselves and our passion to ride.  After being stalled in Wise River for an entire day, we were eager to pedal  70 mile or so.  Midway through the day, we summitted our climb and descended into Elkhorn Hot Springs.  This was an amazing downhill on paved road, curving down switchbacks the entire way.  Cam was about 10 feet from striking a deer at one point.  We planned to stop for a nice dip in the hot springs but fell victim to a great sales pitch.

"How much to take a dip?"
"6 bucks"
"hmmm"
"or for $25, you could take a dip, both sleep in a nice double bed, and enjoy a free all-you-can-eat home cooked breakfast."
"doh"

We ended up caving in after only riding 30 miles or so.  It was an awesome decision though.  The hotsprings really helped the knees and muscle aches. Little did we know, we would fall victim again tomorrow...
