Trip Overview

This blog will follow two totally inexperienced bikepackers, Geoff and Cam, and their journey from Banff to Mexico via the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route. The route follows the Continental Divide, exposing riders to high altitude, diverse wildlife, and solitude. To learn more about the route, check this out. Randy will be the official bookie so get in touch with him if you'd like to place a wager on how far we will actually make it.

In the mean time, you can track our progress here thanks to our SPOT device.

This will be a site where we will try our best to post some pictures and stories along the way. Happy reading!

Day 24 - Can't Remember to Pinedale

Today we planned to hit the town of Pinedale to take care of some business (bike tune-up, library, groceries, etc...) and continue on in the afternoon.  One thing about this trip though, is that you often forget what day it is.  We rolled in to discover it was Sunday and most everything was shut down for the day. We had only pedaled 30 miles or so, but Geoff's drivetrain required some care. We decided to bunker down here for the night instead of pushing onward.  It was nice to get our legs back under us after yesterday's tough ride.

It was also nice to take the afternoon to plan our upcoming challenge of the Wyoming Basin.  This is a 150 mile stretch void of any trees or water.  This requires careful planning so we were glad to allot it the time deserved. I guess we'll talk more about that once we reach it...

We ended up just hanging out in a motel for the evening with some cheap beer watching reruns of the MusiCares concerts.  Not that Springsteen, James Taylor, and Neil Young concerts/tributes were lame, its just that we often found our beers resting on the tables beside us.  Cam decided to cut out a small paper mustache and tape it to the TV.  The rules were this: any time the mustache is placed over a mans "mustache area", you take one drink.  Over a woman's - two drinks.  Over a man already having a real mustache - five drinks.  You can imagine a the amount of 5 drink-ers we had to take during the James Taylor and Neil Young segments.

We all crashed and had an awesome sleep in a real bed.  It was nice.

Spreading the love
